Ambode wants FG’s task force on Lagos lands eradicated

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state, yesterday, accused members of the Presidential Task force Implementation Committee on the alienation of Federal Government Landed Properties of not working in the interest of Federal Government nor the state therefore wants them disbanded.
The task force started its operations during the  immediate past President Jonathan’s administration.

Ambode in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, said the call became necessary following several petitions over alleged nefarious and reprehensible activities of the federal task force.

According to him, the taskforce, whose existence and legality was still in doubt, had unlawfully embarked on the seizure  and appropriation of state and federal government properties.

He stressed that the activities of the task force had left in its wake a near total destruction, displacement, stoppage including unprovoked mass harassment, intimidation, molestation and denial of the original owners of the land and properties.
The Governor has also charged Private Sector Participants, PSPs, to improve on waste management performance in line with basic standard in order to ensure a cleaner and healthier state.

He made the remarks through the new Managing Director of Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Mr. Abdulwahab Ogunbiyi during his inaugural meeting with stakeholders at Waste Transfer Loading site, Agege.

He also solicited the support of stakeholders for effective waste management and assured them that the authority would continue to make available all the necessary infrastructural technical assistance for the private collectors to enhance their services.

According to him, it is no longer the responsibility of LAWMA alone to carry waste, but to manage and regulate the activities of the PSPs, “but as partners we all have to join hands to ensure a cleaner and healthier state”

He also promised to carry on the achievements of his immediate predecessor, Mr. Ola Oresanya whom he described as a bosom colleague and commended him for taking the agency to an enviable height.
At the meeting were 350 PSP service providers, made up of marine waste evacuators, street sweepers and PSP operators across the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.

  1. Way to go Ambode! He really was the right candidate to take over from the Maverick that was Babatunde Fashola, a man that thinks "outside the box". the task force was set up for the benefit of the cronies of the past Jonathan government, and now that an APC man (BUHARI) is at the helm Ambode should be able to have his way at implementing the unique vision that would continue to move Lagos forward.
