Man Runs Into Family’s Arms After He Spends 13 Years In Prison For Murder He Didn’t Commit
After 13 long years, 33-year-old Lamar Johnson is finally out of prison and walking free.
In 2004, Lamar was arrested, charged with murder, and given a life sentence. But Lamar knew that he was innocent. There was no evidence proving that he was guilty, but he had been misidentified as the criminal.
Behind bars, Lamar struggled with his situation. He felt that it wasn’t fair, of course, and wanted to go home. In jail, he happened to come across a poster for the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project. The organization helps clear innocent inmates of charges, and he decided to write them a letter.
A team of lawyers quickly assembled, knowing that they could be the difference between an unjust life sentence and freedom.
It took them years, but Lamar was finally able to walk into the sunlight and into his family’s arms. The entire time he was in jail, his mother never lost faith, and when she saw her son free, that faith paid off.
Lamar says that while he was innocent of the crime, he was no angel either. Behind bars, he earned his GED, and now that he has been proven innocent, he’s going to continue his education.
He adds that he will make the most of his newfound freedom and turn his life around for the better. He even plans on buying into the McDonald’s franchise and becoming an entrepreneur.
