Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has met potential partners for funding and development, her office said on Thursday.
Spokesman Oupa Segalwe said the meeting on Wednesday looked at ways of enhancing Madonsela's work in the light of funding difficulties the last few months.
Madonsela, her deputy Kevin Malunga and senior management met Norwegian and Swiss ambassadors, and senior officials from the United States, Japan, Germany, France and Canada.
Also in attendance were representatives of development agencies from Germany, Japan and Belgium.
The meeting was a follow-up to one held three years ago to garner support for the African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC).
The AORC is the resource and archive centre of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), solely funded through the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco).
"Keen interest was shown by all development partners in attendance. The meeting agreed that any co-operation would be explored within existing government to government agreements," Segalwe said of the latest meeting.
Where money was involved, it would be transferred through the National Treasury.
Areas of co-operation could include possible training opportunities and building governance capacity and oversight in organs of state found to have failures.
Madonsela planned to hold bilateral talks with each partner and include Dirco and the national Treasury.
