How rapper K.O beat it all to be one of SA’s brightest artists

Raised in Piet Retief, K.O came to Joburg in an effort to make it big. But how did he beat the streets of Piet Retief to beat every single rapper in the country and be crowned the hottest MC in the land?

“Piet Retief is part of who I am today,” he tells The Juice. “But I knew I had to move when I fell in love with Hip Hop. My older brother was a break dancer and he introduced me to Hip Hop. I found it an interesting concept, people talking over beats. I became a fan, I studied it and I realised that in that small town I had no chance of breaking out as a rapper, so the only way I could get out was through schooling”.

“I managed to finish my matric and moved to Gauteng to study and then move into the industry. I worked hard recording demos on the side and eventually it all worked out the way it did. It was all part of God’s plan for me and me being determined and hungry enough to see the whole thing happen and grab my chance”,he says.

“That’s what I tell young people. If I was able to do that, coming from a town that people don’t even know exists and to become one of the top hip hop artists in the country, then anything in the world is possible”.
