Horrific accident Kills Pupils And Driver in Hammanskraal, South Africa
Screams filled the air as the driver of the minibus transporting schoolkids lost control and crashed through the walls of the railway bridge before the vehicle overturned.
After it came to a standstill, two people – one pupil and the driver – were declared dead by paramedics who attended at the scene.
Eighteen other kids sustained injuries. One was airlifted to hospital and died after being admitted. The horror accident happened yesterday morning at about 7am on the R101 near Pyramid at Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane.
When Daily Sun arrived at the scene, cops and families of the victims were trying to work out what could have happened.
Alfred, the father of Tshepiso Nkuna (14), who died in the accident, said: “I can’t believe my son is no more. He was in good spirits when he came to say goodbye before going to school, but little did I know it was a farewell message.”
He said that his son – who was in grade 9 at Pretoria Central High School – had great plans for the future.
Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said: “Our preliminary observations suggest that the minibus tried to overtake the car, or cars, in front of it. Upon realising that there was fast oncoming traffic, the driver veered off the road to the extreme right. The vehicle hit a bridge and overturned.”
