Australian teenager mauled by crocodile after jumping into infested river for a 'dare'

A teenager was mauled by a crocodile after jumping into an infested river for a 'dare'.

British backpacker,Sophie Paterson, 24, watched in terror as the victim screamed for help as he was savaged by the animal.

Lee De Paauw, 18, managed to escape the attack by repeatedly punching the croc in the Johnstone River in North Queensland, Australia.

Sophie, from Yeovil, Somerset, said the teen had bragged about being able to swim with crocodiles infested waters before being dared to jump in. She said:

“He was talking about the local creek saying ‘I can swim out’ and so we said, ‘go on then’, but we didn’t think he would do it.
"He sort of made this claim ‘I’ll swim out and back’, at first we just said ‘don’t be so ridiculous’ and didn’t think he was going to go through with it."

According to Daily Mirror, the teenager suffered multiple fractures and lacerations as he was tossed around by the 10-foot long crocodile yesterday.
He was rushed to hospital and underwent an emergency operation to save his arm but is now said to be making a full recovery.

A Department of Environment and Heritage Protection spokesman confirmed the crocodile was being targeted for capture and removal.
