Five things on President Obama's Kenya agenda

US President Barack Obama arrives in Kenya on Friday for a weekend visit that will include talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Five key issues that have been noted to dominate his Kenya visit, listed in no particular order are:

Trade – The US is a major trade partner with Kenya after the EU. Major deals will be signed on this visit.

Terrorism – Al-Shabaab’s reign of terror in east Africa will feature prominently in discussion. Kenya is taking the lead in the fight against the Islamist militant group.

Human Rights – Kenya’s less-than-exemplary track record will come up. While charges of crimes against humanity have been withdrawn against President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto remains on trial at the ICC.

Development – He is in Kenya to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit.

Gay Rights – Although Kenyatta says it’s not on the agenda, Obama himself has vowed to press home his ‘blunt message’ on the subject to African leaders.
