Nigeria remain in 53rd spot on latest Fifa ranking

Nigeria still hasn't moved as the 53rd ranked national team in the latest Fifa rankings released Thursday for the month of September. The Eagles are now the ninth-ranked side in African behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal, Congo, Cameroon and Egypt.

Algeria remain the top-ranked African team and 19th in the world with 955 points while reigning African champions Cote d’Ivoire are second in Africa and ranked 21st in the world. Ghana remain third on the continent and 27th in the world after amassing 827 points on the Fifa list.

Nigeria’s group opponents in the 2017 Afcon qualifying series saw mixed fortunes as Egypt moved up three places to 49, Chad moved a place up to 171 in the world, while Tanzania remain unmoved to remain 140th in the world.

Copa America winners Chile attained their highest ever ranking at 8th, and are the only team to have made significant movement in the top ten with Argentina still leading the way followed by world champions Germany.
