USA Nurse, Oluyemisi Adebayo arrested For Killing Toddler In Boiling Hot Water
According to the office of Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Oluyemisi Adebayo, aged 54, of St. Albans, Queens, was about to board a flight to Nigeria, via London, when she was arrested Wednesday morning.
Adebayo had been hired to take care of Naomi in her family’s home in Rosedale, Queens. She had prepared a bath for Naomi on Tuesday, April 21, and that she tested the temperature of the hot water with her own hand before putting Naomi in the tub. Adebayo allegedly claimed she only noticed skin falling off Naomi’s legs after she took the girl out of the tub, prosecutors said.
Contrary to her explanatins, NYPD Crime Scene Unit detectives determined that the water from the tub spigot reached 130 degrees, and it took about two minutes to reach the maximum temperature, prosecutors said. Medical personnel also said Adebayo’s account did not at all match up to the injuries observed.
Her mother is still in shock to speak to reporters but baby Naomi's father, Brook doesn't buy Adebayo's story. He says, “She knows what she did,” he said. “That’s why she was trying to flee the country. She’s supposed to be trained and certified for all these years, he said. My daughter’s care was in her hands.”
“She claimed it was a mistake. She claimed she checked the water. It’s impossible, If she had checked the water, she would have been burnt also.”
Baby Naomi suffered extraordinarily painful injuries for several days before she died
Yemisi Adebayo still maintains her innocence that it was a mistake and she checked the water.
She could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of murder in Naomi's death, prosecutors said. Her next court appearance is May 15.
